Hello, and welcome to Redworth WI!

The Women's Institute was founded during the First World War, the first ever in Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllanty-
siliogogogoch
, Wales in 1915. It was formed to unify women and encourage to be become more involved in food production during the war. But it also had another aim, one which is still very much at the heart of the modern day WI: to revitalise and develop rural communities.

Since then the WI has continued to grow,
and there are now 6,800 WIs whom together form 70 county and island federations, each with a regional office. In 2003 the first urban Women's Institute was founded in Fulham. This has been hugely successful and has begun a revolution within the WI, with new institutes opening and younger memebers joinng both new and old establishments. On its 90th anniversary in 2005 there were 6,500 WIs with 205,000 members.
